Salt Lake City During The Winter

Salt Lake City is one of the most popular places to go skiing in the United States and it’s  great for snowboarding and other winter time activities as well. The unique thing about Utah is that even though we have over five hundred inches of snow in the mountains here the snow is much drier which is why it’s known to be some of the best powder around for skiing and snowboarding. Utah also has some very famous ski resorts which, even for people who don’t enjoy outdoor activities in the winter, are a great deal of fun. Park City, which is just a short drive from Salt Lake City has lots of beautiful land and resorts and fun restaurants and attractions for those that travel to Utah to spend some time enjoying the snow. Utah’s snow is so well known that they even hosted the winter Olympics of 2002 and enjoyed the company of people from all over the world that traveled to see the competitions and to enjoy the local scenery of Utah. But even if you don’t have a certain fondness for skiing or snowboarding there are still lots of fun things to do in Utah. Staying at the resorts alone is a really fun way to spend the time as you’ll be able to see the beautiful views, enjoy lots of treats, have fun shopping and dining in beautiful park city and you’ll only be just a few minutes drive from downtown salt lake.

In downtown salt lake you’ll be able to see plenty of beautiful lights strung during the holiday season and it’s especially worth the while to visit temple square and see the light decorations and the nativity scene that is a tradition for them to set up there every year. There are also lots of fun christmas concerts, festivals, and new years celebrations that take place downtown and there’s never a better time to go see a play or a concert than during the holidays. It’s also a great time to get some shopping done downtown in one of the malls like The Gateway which often features live music and concerts and sometimes even dancing in its main plaza. Utah is also a great place to simply take drives in to see the many houses that are decorated very well for the holiday season and certain streets even take over a radio station during the holidays to time their light shows to the music! You can also visit the ever popular Gallivan Skating Rink which is a beautiful place to go ice skating during the winter and to enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate with family and friends after you shop or look at the lights. Plus Utah is known for having some of the most beautiful and snowy christmases around which makes for a great surprise on christmas day.
